by DeVore Design, July 25, 2016

As of the mid-year mark, Orlando attracted companies expected to create more than 2,700 jobs within the next two to five years, according to the Orlando Economic Development Commission.

Companies expect to create these jobs as they relocate or expand their presence in the Orlando area.

June 2016’s numbers represent a more than 250 percent increase in job creation — Orlando attracted just 769 jobs between January 2015-June 2015. Further, since June 2015, Orlando has attracted companies expected to create 5,300-plus jobs.

The health care industry is the leading driver of jobs in the Orlando area. The expansion of health care companies CVS, Axium and AcariaHealth alone will create 1,000-plus jobs.

Here’s a breakdown of all the companies that will bring jobs to Orlando within the next two to five years:

  • Asurion Mutual — 600 jobs
  • CVS Caremark Corp. — 500 jobs

  • Alegeus Technologies — 150 jobs
  • BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy Services Inc. — 111 jobs

Further, 2,007 of those jobs were from 18 projects the Orlando EDC helped generate this year, a 70 percent increase in Orlando EDC’s job creation since 2015. “We attribute the increase to our targeted regional branding campaign, which is now in its second year,” said Laureen Martinez, the EDC’s senior director of marketing and communications. “We expect the campaign to continue to drive interest in our market as a great business location.”
