Here’s how much traffic delays cost you in Orlando

Traffic congestion can cost Orlando drivers up to $1,044 per year, with 46 hours lost annually due to traffic alone — putting the City Beautiful above the national average in both categories, according to a new report from Auto Insurance Center.

The report by the insurance news and information site showed that the average American commuter loses 42 hours per year to snarled traffic. That means a full workweek every year, or 10 months total during an average career, is spent driving to and from work.

Here’s some other interesting data from the report:

  • About 86 percent of American workers commute by car every day
  • More than three out of four commuters drive alone
  • A typical auto commuter spends 25.7 minutes driving to work each morning
  • Traffic delays cost the typical American commuter $960 a year
  • Sitting in traffic wastes an average of 19 gallons of gasoline per commuter annually.

Miami was the only Florida major metro that boasts of higher costs per year and hours lost. There, the average cost per commuter runs $1,169 annually, with 52 hours per year lost due to traffic alone.
